“When it comes to fitness, BCAA’s (branch chain amino acids) should be a part of every serious athletes daily supplement routine.  Not only will it help in building & maintaining the body you want, but getting your gallon+ of water in everyday has never been easier… or tastier!  This BCAA Strawberry Melon Chiller will have you fully hydrated and refreshed!”

Dear SoCal heat wave, you suck!

It’s been hovering around 100° here in San Diego for a week now and with these soaring temperatures, I’ve almost completely melted already.  I suppose I should feel somewhat fortunate that it’s been a fairly mild summer in terms of heat, but when each breath I take outside makes me feel like I’m suffocating I much rather just sit here and complain to you 🙂  The heat simply just drains the life out of me and sucks out every small bit of energy I may happen to have (which isn’t much these days)!

Fortunately for me, PEScience has me 100% covered with staying fully hydrated with their new flavors of Amino IV’s (Strawberry Breeze and Mango Splash… OMG)!  For the past 2+ years now, I’ve woken up EVERY single morning and immediately started my day with 48 ounces of water & my Amino IV’s.  I don’t even have my first meal of the day until I’ve finished all of my water/BCAA’s. It’s a habit I’m thankful to have started years ago and have NO plans of changing, ever!  SO SO SO delicious and especially refreshing when it’s this hot!

Not only am I able to easily get in my gallon+ of H20 each and everyday without a hitch, but I’m utterly convinced these branch chain amino acids have played a HUGE role in helping maintain all the muscle I built prior to my spinal disease diagnoses last year.  With training and lifting off the table for me, I’m certainly not building anymore muscle in my lifetime, but I’ll be damned if I let all that hard work fade away without putting up a fight.  My Amino IV’s are certainly helping me in this battle!!!  Muscle mass has obviously been lost not being able to lift properly, but I know without a doubt in my mind I’ve been able to maintain a good deal also simply from my regular Amino IV’s routine!

Unfortunately, most people aren’t aware of what BCAA’s are, let alone how beneficial BCAA’s are in their training, recovery and overall muscle maintenance.  These should be paramount in your daily routine if you are looking to “tone up” and reshape your body!

“BCAAs are key ingredients to consume no matter what type of athlete you are: Bodybuilding, powerlifting, long distance runner, or sprinter. If you work your muscles…BCAAs should be a go-to supplement.

But the majority of the BCAA products on the market are just that…BCAAs, not a whole lot else. There are a few industry-funded BCAA studies out there with good results. But we feel these products are missing something essential…literally!

The body runs off what we call Essential Amino Acids. These are amino acids that your body cannot make on its own. They must be consumed via diet. You see, when your body goes to make new protein, like the protein that make up your muscles, it requires that all of the 9 essential amino acids be present, not just the 3 BCAAs.

Your body starts by making muscle protein to build muscle mass. It incorporates the BCAAs into the growing protein chains, and then your genetic code calls for an essential amino acid. So what happens if you don’t have EAAs present?

1. The new protein is terminated. You simply do not benefit.

2. Your body breaks down a pre-existing muscle protein (known as “catabolism”) in order to get the missing amino acid. The net effect is loss of muscle mass.

Now most of us should have sufficient EAAs if we are on high protein diets, but if you are going to be taking a supplement with leucine or BCAAs, why just assume you have sufficient amounts already in your body? Amino IV’s provide each essential amino acid in EVERY serving.”

And even if you don’t believe the science behind BCAA’s, these Amino IV’s by PEScience will have you addicted to drinking your gallon+ of water upon first sip!  Seriously… even after I’ve finished my water for the day I still crave MORE, even more so with this disgustingly hot weather!!!   For those particular times when I’m done with my first serving and still craving more, I get a little creative with my drinks!  One of my favorites is blending my Amino IV’s with water and frozen fruit!  It makes for an amazing afternoon “cocktail” and refresher!

Any fruit would work and even if it’s not frozen, just add some ice and prepare to drink drink drink!  I’ve used pineapple, mango, and mixed berries… all equally delicious.  However, last week I attempted a frozen drink with watermelon and was HOOKED!!!  I actually tried it two ways and since I couldn’t pick which I liked better, I’ll share both variations with you:

Of course it all starts with the Amino IV’s… Strawberry Breeze this time, please & thanks.

If you want to use the watermelon as your “cup” or if you happen to make a batch for a couple of servings (tag your #swolemate haha), simple level off one side of the fruit then scoop.

Bodybuilding CocktailsAdd watermelon, water, and a scoop (or two) of Amino IV’s to a blender and mix until smooth.  You can also freeze the cut watermelon prior to blending to make the drink extra slushy!  Low calorie, low carb, and lots of yummy!!!  Pour the mixture back into the hollowed out watermelon, add some extra pieces of watermelon, and enjoy!

Or if you don’t need the fancy “cup” for presentation… pour it right into a chilled glass!  Either way, one sip of this and it’s game over.  You WILL come back for extra servings!
